Dominic Marchal began making sails at Tom Blackalllers North Sails loft in Alameda, CA in 1985. Hired as an apprentice to help build sails for Blackallers 1986/87 USA Americas Cup campaign he worked his way up to eventually become the service manager of the largest production sail loft in Northern California.
After more than a decade of working at several sail lofts both in the Bay Area and internationally Dominic was recruited by the Italian team Prada as a sailmaker for their Americas Cup team and spent several years moving back and forth between New Zealand and Italy building sails as a member of their in house sailmaking team.
After leaving the Prada team Dominic attended the California Maritime Academy where he graduated with a degree in Global Logistics. Soon after graduating Dominic acquired a small local loft and started his own sail repair business, also called Marchal Sailmakers in Alameda, CA that had a successful ten year run before closing due to family relocation to Southern California.
Earlier this year Dominic was approached by Jay and Pease Glaser and offered the opportunity to take over Glaser Sails as they had decided to sail off onto a well deserved retirement. After spending time working with the Glaser's over the summer Dominic is now the full time owner of the loft and hopes to continue the legacy of Jay and Pease as builders of quality high performance sails as well as continuing his own sailmaking adventures.
